Pathways to Mathematical Learning
Wednesday, May 27 7-8:30 PM
Math is in everything around us, from our own hands (with the ten "digits"),
to the fractal nature of fjords, to the way computers think. It can be a true
joy to discover the wonders of math as it displays itself in nature or even
on a piece of paper. But learning math has more that comes with it: it can
enhance unique mental pathways, special ways of viewing the world and solving
problems.
How can we keep the joy of learning math alive in ourselves and our children,
when often we might not need to use it outside of balancing our checkbooks?
This workshop will highlight what we can do as adults to bring the enjoyment
of math into our own lives, to then support our children in their discovery
of this amazing subject.
The workshop will also address what makes Singapore Math the most successful
math teaching program in the world, and the ways it is implemented and supplemented
at the Garden Road.
Presented by: Susan Midlarsky
